Why are the Deaflympics in Erzurum?
Hello to all country representatives,
In this video, I would like to explain why Turkey changed its location as the host of the Deaflympics through some questions we received.
Firstly, we applied for the organization to be held in Ankara-Kayseri, but we later decided to change it to Erzurum.
In Italy, where the 2019 Winter Deaflympics and ICSD congress were held, we, as Turkey, had planned to undertake the 2027 Winter Games and had announced our candidacy.
Canada stated that it wanted to host the 2023 Deaflmpics, but withdrew before it was approved, and then Austria announced its candidacy. After a while, Austria informed that it couldn’t host the event. Since there are no candidate country to host 2023 Deaflmypics and there is limited time left for the organization, our meetings have started with the ICSD president and members. Because of ICSD’s request and our understanding of the importance of loving and supporting Deaf sports and ensuring its continuity, we accepted this difficult task and started working. We had discussions with the Turkish Ministry of Youth and Sports and government officials and we received their approval to organize the event. We are grateful for their support and approval for us to take on this organization.
We quickly selected and announced the provinces of Ankara and Kayseri and started working. ICSD President Mr. Adam Kosa and ICSD International Sports Director Ralph Fernández conducted inspections, reporting on both the positives and negatives of the chosen locations.
During this period, our country faced political elections and a earthquake disaster, resulting in numerous losses. Depending on these situations, there were changes in positions and duties within the government. There was significant uncertainty and pauses regarding Olympic processes in our country.
Due to the readiness of security, international sports experience, and facilities, the Ministry suggested holding the event in Erzurum. Considering the full support from local authorities in Erzurum and there was limited time left, we agreed that this change would be advantageous and requested ICSD to quickly accept our location change.
We would like to thank both ICSD and the local authorities in Erzurum for accepting the change of location with very little time left and for the availability of facilities meeting international standards. This was a highly positive development.
The decision to Erzurum has eliminated many problems present in the Ankara-Kayseri plan, such as the distance of 5 hours between two separate locations, the countries and athletes into two different places, and issues related to consolidating the opening and closing ceremonies in a single location. Furthermore, concerns about the lack of FIS approvals for Erciyes Mountain and insufficient ice rinks have been entirely eliminated by choosing Erzurum. We are delighted that all facilities will be in one place and close to each other.
We would like to thank all countries for their understanding and support during the preparation process of the organization in this short time.

NEDEN ERZURUM

Merhaba Tüm ülke temsilcileri, bize gelen bazı sorular üzerinden bu videoda Türkiye’nin Deaflympics’e ev sahibi olarak yer değişikliğinin nedenini açıklamak istiyorum.

İlk olarak Ankara-Kayseri olarak başvurduğumuz organizasyonu Erzurum olarak değiştirdik.

2019 Kış Deaflympics ve ICSD kongresinin düzenlendiği İtalya’da Türkiye 2027 Kış Oyunlarını almayı planlamış ve adaylığımızı duyurmuştuk.

Kanada’nın 2023 Deaflmpics aday olmak istediğini belirtmiş ama onaylanmadan çekilmiş ve arkasından Avusturya adaylığını duyurmuştu ve bir süre sonra ev sahibi olamayacağını bildirdi. 2023 Deaflmypics aday ülke olmaması ve artık çok az zaman kalması nedeniyle ICSD başkanı ve üyeleri ile görüşmelerimiz başladı. Onların bizden ricası ile Sağır sporunu sevmemiz, önem vermemiz ve devamlılığının sağlanmasının önemli olduğunu farkında olmamız nedeniyle bu zor görevi almayı kabul ettik ve çalışmalara başladık. Türkiye Gençlik ve Spor Bakanlığı ve devlet yetkililer ile görüşmelerimizi yaptık organizasyonu yapabilmemiz için onay aldık. Bakanlığımıza desteği ve bu organizasyonu almamızı onaylaması nedeniyle minnettarız ve teşekkür ediyoruz.

Hızlıca Ankara ve Kayseri illerini seçtik ve duyurduk, çalışmalara başladık. ICSD başkanı sayın Adam Kosa ve ICSD uluslararası spor direktörü Ralph Fernández ziyaretleri ile kontroller yapıldı ve olumlu – olumsuz yönleri ile raporlamalar yapıldı.

Biliyorsunuz ki bu süreçte Türkiye Hükümet seçimleri ve deprem ile yüksek kayıplarımızın olması ülkemizde süreç ile ilgili ciddi bir belirsizlik ve duraksamalar oldu. Buna bağlı olarak hükümet içerisinde makam ve görev değişiklikleri oldu.

Bakanlık tarafından güvenlik, uluslararası spor deneyimi ve tesisler hazır olduğu için Erzurum’da yapılması önerildi. Erzurumdaki yerel makamlardan tam destek almamız ve çok az zaman kalması nedeniyle bunun avantajını kabul ettik ve ICSD’ye rica ederek hızlıca yer değişikliğimizi kabul etmelerini istedik.

Çok az zaman kala yer değişikliğinin kabul edilmesi ve uluslararası standartta tesislerin hazır olması açısından hem ICSD ye hem de Erzurum yerel yetkililere çok çok teşekkür ederiz. Gerçekten bu çok olumlu bir gelişme oldu.

Çünkü, Ankara – Kayseri planında arası 5 saat uzaklıkta olan iki ayrı mekan olması, ülkelerin ve sporcuların iki ayrı konuma ayrılacak olması, açılış-kapanış seremonisinin ortak tek noktada buluşturmak ile ilgili sıkıntılar, erciyes dağının fis onaylarının olmaması ve yeterli buz pistinin bulunmaması vb gibi bir çok sıkıntı Erzurum kararı ile tamamiyle yok oldu. Tüm tesisler tek bir yerde ve birbirine olan mesafelerin yakın olması bizi multu etti.
